CARB Emissions Test Cost in California

CARB emissions test cost in California: tester inspection fees, CARB’s 2026 $32.13 fee, and CTC-VIS filing at $76 first vehicle, $69 extra. Not CARB.gov.

GuidesBy CARB Test Finder5 min read

A CARB emissions test in California has no statewide price. Testers set their own inspection fees. Covered vehicles also pay CARB’s 2026 annual Clean Truck Check fee of $32.13. Optional CTC-VIS filing on CARB Test Finder is $76 for the first vehicle and $69 for each extra, with that CARB fee already included.

CARB Test Finder is an independent directory — not CARB.gov. We do not set tester prices and we do not issue the official compliance certificate. Confirm the annual fee on CARB’s 2026 compliance fee update.

Estimate your Clean Truck Check cost

Use the Clean Truck Check cost calculator for a listed tester from–to range by ZIP, CARB’s $32.13 ± annual fee, and optional $76 / $69 filing with the government fee included — not added on top.

How much does a CARB emissions test cost?

Clean Truck Check testing fees vary by tester, location, vehicle type, and whether you use a shop or mobile CARB testing. CARB Test Finder does not set those rates.

Compare nearby California CARB testing locations by ZIP before you book. Ask the tester what is included, whether a retest has a separate charge, and whether mobile service costs more than an in-shop lane.

The three Clean Truck Check costs

Most fleets pay more than one bill. Keep these lines separate so a tester quote is not confused with CARB’s fee or with filing support.

CostWho you pay2026 amountWhen

Bottom line: the inspection fee is never included in our filing totals. If you file with us, CARB’s $32.13 fee is already inside $76 / $69 — there is no extra government fee on top.

What is the CARB annual compliance fee?

The CARB annual compliance fee is the statewide Clean Truck Check fee for covered vehicles. For deadlines on and after January 1, 2026, CARB set it at $32.13 per vehicle.

If you file in CTC-VIS yourself, you pay that fee in the official portal. If you use our Clean Truck Check CARB certification support, that $32.13 is already inside the filing total.

This fee is not the tester’s inspection charge, and it is not a smog-check price for passenger cars.

What does CTC-VIS filing cost?

CTC-VIS filing is the reporting and certificate step after a passing CARB emissions test. It is not the test itself.

On CARB Test Finder:

  • $76 covers one vehicle
  • Each extra vehicle is $69
  • Example: two vehicles are $76 + $69
  • CARB’s $32.13 2026 annual fee is included in those totals
  • Tester inspection fees stay extra

CARB Test Finder files the paperwork so you can download the official certificate from the state portal. We do not issue that certificate.

How to add up Clean Truck Check costs

Add the three lines before you book, so there are no surprises at the yard or in CTC-VIS.

  1. Budget the tester inspection. Get a quote from a listed CARB tester for your vehicle type and location.
  2. Include CARB’s annual fee. If you file in CTC-VIS yourself, pay $32.13 per vehicle. If you file with us, that fee is already inside $76 / $69 — do not add it again.
  3. Add filing support only if you need it. Use $76 / $69 when you want help after a passing test — not as a substitute for the inspection.

Bring registration and VIN details so the tester quote matches the unit you will report. The prep checklist covers what to have on test day.

What if my truck fails and needs a retest?

A failed CARB emissions test does not finish Clean Truck Check. Ask the tester which items failed and whether a retest is billed separately. Complete repairs, then book a retest with a listed provider.

CARB Test Finder helps you find testers. Repairs and retest pricing are handled by those businesses.
